5 Stages of Loss

Grief does not move in the order the books promise. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance — I painted five stages because that is the shape I was handed, not because loss actually walks a straight line.

Each painting holds one stage without rushing it toward the next. The birds carry what the stage feels like, not what it is supposed to look like from the outside.
