“Healing in His Wings” is about our Savior’s triumph over death, pain, and humanness. Just like the thieves who were on the cross with Jesus, we are given the choice to abide with Him, or not. I love using the symbolism of birds and powerline poles. Hawks are beings of power, as are we. Also powerline poles are modern crosses. As we drive down the road of life we may notice powerlines and birds. During these times we can remember that true power is found through our choice to follow the Savior.
This painting took over 2 years to finish. It is formed from layers of ideas, and outdated maps. In a way this is very much like all of us. As we mature we develop depth and a certain richness we could not otherwise acquire. For this reason alone many connect with this piece even before they understand what it is about.
One last thought to consider is that, the two men who were crucified with Jesus, they had lived their lives and made terrible choices that led to their deaths. In their last moments they were given one more chance. One thief looked away from Jesus and the other looked to Him and lived with Him in heaven. God doesn’t say, “it’s too late”. He says, “Come unto me, all ye that are heavy laden and I will give ye rest.” (Matt 11:28)
“Healing in His Wings” was a featured painting in the renowned “Certain Women” 2019 exhibit.
